The VAB is not only a Space Coast Community icon, it is a national treasure and a symbol of space flight. The VAB has been continuously operational since the Apollo missions and has re-purposed multiple times to meet the needs of space travel to this day. Tens of thousands of people have worked in this facility since its opening. While it is remotely located in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, it is visible from towns and cities across the Space Coast and beyond. The VAB is truly a symbol of the Space Coast Community. Photos NASA Public Domain
